Insurance

Employer's Liability Insurance

All employers of a Personal Assistant have a legal obligation to take out Employer’s Liability Insurance, regardless of how many hours the PA works or whether they are a friend or relative.  Many people in Gloucestershire use Fish Insurance or Mark Bates Ltd, but there are other specialist insurance providers that can provide similar cover.

Driving Insurance

If the employer is asking someone to drive their car, whether it is a Motability car or their own car, they must make sure the PA is covered on their insurance policy.  Employers should also check that the PA has a driving licence that meets the requirements of their policy.

If the PA will be driving their own car within work hours (e.g. to transport the employer/ person with support needs) they should be insured on their policy to use their car for work (i.e. suitable business insurance).
